I was born in Pirmasens, Germany and have always wanted to be a teacher. Teaching runs in my family. My father and many aunts/uncles were teachers. I love to travel and have had opportunities to visit countries including Japan, Italy, England, Austria, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Education/Licensure/Experience I earned my Bachelor's degree in 2001 as a certified K-6 teacher. In 2005 I earned my Masters degree in Reading from Queens University. I also am certified to teach German K-12 and have an ESL licence. |
About Our School
|
Waddell Language Academy is a public K-8 magnet school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School (CMS) District that offers students the unique opportunity to become fluent and literate in a second language. Waddell Language Academy offers second language immersion instruction in Chinese, German, French, and Japanese.
From the first days in Kindergarten, students are immersed in the new language. This produces students who are proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a second language. These intensive language programs are taught in the second language for all or part of the instructional day. Elementary School Waddell Academy offers full language immersion programs for K-5 students in Chinese, German, French, or Japanese. (Spanish K-8 immersion is taught at Collinswood Language Academy and Oaklawn Language Academy.) Students can be admitted in Kindergarten and 1st grade for German and French, but in Kindergarten only for Chinese and Japanese. Middle School At the middle school level, Waddell Academy students continue to study their immersion language and can begin an accelerated course of study in a third language. Middle school students can also choose from a wide range of traditional elective courses as well as those that emphasize different languages and cultures. Middle school students also have the opportunity to participate in the same sports and extra-curricular activities available to all CMS middle school students. |
