Dear Parents,
Welcome to my fourth grade German class. I have been teaching this grade for fourteen years now and I am looking forward to this school year. I hope we will have lots of fun and also learn a lot. I believe that students learn best in a safe and orderly environment. If you have any questions, please email me. You will find that I am very easy to talk to and always open for suggestions.
Absences:
Students should come to school daily. If your child is sick, please notify the office and me and let us know the reason for his/her absence. School starts at 8:15 and ends at 3:15. Students coming in after 8:15 are considered tardy.
Discipline: I will not allow any students to interrupt the learning of others and his/her own learning. My behavior chart is the same as in most other classrooms. If the student stays on “green” the entire week he/she will receive ice cream on Friday. In my class I have two essential rules:
Homework:
I will assign daily homework in Math. Not doing homework will result in your child's clip to go on yellow. Students have a chance to do homework in school, and it is not very much. If your child left homework in the car or home, just write an email to me and he/she can bring it in the next day. We will go over the homework daily. Sometimes students will have certain projects in Social Studies or Science to work on. This year's fourth graders will have an agenda in which they can write all their assignments. You will need to purchase these agenda from school preferably on line.
Communication:
My email is:
[email protected]
I check my email daily, so please feel free to contact me. I will send you a weekly “Malave Message”, which will help you understand what is going on in our class and keep you up-dated. This message will be emailed to you before each weekend. PlEASE SEND ANY TRANSPORTATION CHANGES BEFORE 1 PM TO ME AND TO THE OFFICE!
Parent volunteers:
Need room mom and copy moms (or dads). I am always ready to welcome you in my classroom.
Snacks:
Students are required to bring their own snacks if needed. I have no storage for snack items, please understand. Students at that age will know if they'll need a snack or not. I prefer if you don't bring in nut products.
Materials:
The supply list is posted on the school web site. Most materials will be shared, such as folders, tissues, paper, etc. There is no need to label those items. I fully understand that some families won’t be able to bring supplies, so we share. Only label those supplies which should not be shared.
Testing:
Besides the state mandated tests I usually give weekly Math and German tests on Fridays. I will have them corrected for you and ready to go home for the weekend. Please look over these tests with your child and sign and return them to me by the next Monday. If the grade is a 90 and above, you will not have to sign them. Failure to return the signed tests by Monday will cause your child to go on yellow. In addition I will contact you, too. Please pay close attention to the quarterly tests; they are a great indicator on how well your child understands the material taught.
